The English Dept. gets its picture taken.

Photographer Leah Verwey takes bewitching photos of creative work spaces around Portland for her beautiful site, Spacepdx. I have had a crush on Spacepdx for quite a while, and the universe must have heard my secret plea, because Leah and her camera came to visit us recently. For a glimpse into our daily workings, go here.

Wine country wedding, East coast style.

Jamie wore my one of a kind gown, "Sakura," and one of my ruffle shrugs to her wedding at a winery in New Jersey. Great photos by Alyssa Andrew.

I've got a crush...

...on Lovely L.A.! It's the dearest, sweetest shop on Robertson Boulevard, and I'll be here through this glorious sunny spring weekend with my complete dress collection. Saturday is booked, but appointments are still available for Sunday. Call Lovely to make yours.

Thank you, San Francisco.

Thank you to everyone who came out for our SF trunk show last weekend! It was such a pleasure to meet all you cool ladies, and see you jump into some dresses. To stay up to date on events and find out where I'll be next, join The English Dept. mailing list.

Love these shots of Mel's wedding in Manchester, England, as seen on Annabel's blog. Photos by Lillian and Leonard.

A little fresh air.

I was honored to contribute wardrobe styling to a recent editorial for Project Wedding. The lovely and talented Chelsea (of Frolic! blog fame) orchestrated the photo shoot beautifully--who else could find a gorgeous English-style glasshouse within reach of Portland? I can only take credit for the bride's dress and pinafore--so many talented people participated. Full story and credits here.

If you're going to San Francisco...

...we're having a lovely trunk show this weekend. Lots of pretty new pieces to show you, as well as my complete 2012 collection. Come say hello!

A Storyville story.

April wore my Storyville Suite, a three piece ensemble. Silk duchess satin minidress with two convertible skirts--a blush-colored tulle ball skirt and a melon green silk organza mini. The perfect solution to the long-or-short-dress dilemma...

Don't call it gray.

You may know that grey (I just really have to spell it that way--so much prettier!) is my favorite color, so I'm happy Shontee let me talk her into this lovely silvery bolero to go over her wedding dress. Embellishments are silk organza flowers, hand dyed bits of lace and embroidery, and vintage pearls and jewels.

Princess and the (Sweet) Pea.

New at The English Dept.: the Sweet Pea gown from Ivy & Aster. Softly pleated flocked dot silk chiffon, draped bodice, just enough train to give the dress a regal bearing. Truly stunning.

Our love is big as a barn.

I love these photos Ben Blood shot of Jenny and Kevin's wedding on a historic farm in Southwest Washington. Jenny wore a silk chiffon gown from Jenny Yoo and a Modern Romance headpiece, all from The English Dept.
Yes, his boutonniere is a kite. A kite! I love it. And the tie.
Like I said, barn-size. You can see more photos of their celebration here.

Oysters & Pearls on Style Me Pretty.

Amy wore a customized version of my full length Oysters & Pearls dress (we raised the neckline front and back and added cap sleeves). So many dear, personal details to this celebration. See more photos on Style Me Pretty.

Isn't it Lovely?

I'm pleased to announce that my 2012 bridal collection, "Heroines," will soon be available at Lovely, a new bridal boutique opening in New York City. Lanie, proud owner, has handpicked a beautiful crew of independent designers for her shop's debut, and I'm honored to be among them (that's my Oysters & Pearls dress on her home page--I'm so proud!). If you're on the hunt for a dress and within shopping distance of NY, definitely stop in. Check Lovely's website and blog for more information. As of press time, opening date is scheduled for April 3rd!

Yellow Dress No. 11

Make things by hand. For your kids (if you have 'em). Not that I wouldn't wear this myself, because I would. Via Even Cleveland.

The English Dept. voted one of Lucky Magazine's "Best Bridal Shops"

We're thrilled to have made this list!  That fetching pink frock is our "Love and Tenderness" dress from Ivy & Aster, in Cherry Blossom. Here's what Lucky has to say about us:

A trailer-full of love.

Christine just sent over this lovely feature about her wedding on Style Me Pretty. Working with her on her dress was such a fun project, and I'm happy to see that the wedding was a stylish success just busting with unbuttoned, west coast charm. I also have to share this wow photo of her whole ensemble:

You've come a long way, bolero!

My ruffle bolero was recently featured in a navy-and-pink editorial in Martha Stewart Weddings. Isn't she cute? The model, I mean, although yes, little ruffle bolero, you are adorable. Shown with Simple Silhouettes Tulip dress.
